The first shot style we’ll look at is The Textbook Shot.
Coaches love textbooks shooters, they are more consistent and reliable players. The proper alignment and simplified motion makes the shot repeatable.
Textbook shooters add the threat of a three-pointer and spread the defense.
Textbook shooters have their hand centered under the ball with their elbow pointed at the target. The elbow is bent at 90 degrees with the thumb at eyebrow height. They extend their arm up, snap their wrist towards the basket, and finish with their elbow above their eyebrow.
Over the summer we’ll take an in-depth look at eight different shot styles in a new series, THE SCIENCE OF SHOOTING. Stay tuned!
